Vega Station (Cybergeddon)
- You may be looking for the Vega Station visited by the Fourth and Eighth Doctors.
By the early 40th century, Vega Station was one of the larges residential and commercial space stations in the Galaxy. In 3909, it was attacked by the last major force of surviving Cyberons, long after the end of the Cyberon War.
Structure[[edit]]
Vega boasted of "bustling ports", including a spacedock which housed the official headquarters of the prestigious Red Star Line; this spaceport alone boasted nearly half a million permanent residents, thousands of the sector's most popular commercial establishments, and "even a fair few political embassies". Other notable features of the Station included envirochambers replicating lush natural landscapes of the kind which space-farers rarely got the chance to experience "in the wild". It also had innumerable restaurants and other such establishments, including one with large bay windows looking out at the surrounding outer space.
The Station was politically independent. It was overseen from the command centre by Vega Commander Jyaxx Nevaryn, her Lieutenant Lonnie, and most importantly, the computer intelligence known as the Admiral, who was in charge of the defence systems, which included a fleet of warships docked within the station. History[[edit]]
Vega Station started out as "a demilitarised zone for two sides of an interstellar conflict" before the Cyberon War, (PROSE: Cybergeddon [+]Loading...["Cybergeddon (novelisation)"]) matching the description of another Vega Station. (PROSE: Demontage [+]Loading...["Demontage (novel)"]) It grew into a casino that became a popular tourist spot, and then underwent a period of rapid expansion as refugees from the end of the Cyberon War emigrated there. Nine hundred years on, in 3909, it was the "shining artificial star" of the Earth Alliance, with a status almost equal to that of a planet. It served as a hub for "most intergalactic commerce within a radius of several lightyears".
Caldin Corrigan grew up in Vega Station and raised his daughter there. For this reason, the fleshed android duplicate of Emily refused to live there after she fell out with Corrigan. However, fate conspired to bring her back in 3909 when she was taken prisoner by Cyberons who had set their sights on the nearby Station. Escaping containment within the Cyberon base, Emily was able to get a warning out to Vega, but it was detected by the Cyberons, who hurried their plans, flying their entire base, alongside multiple Cyberships, towards the Station in a rushed surprise attack.
The Vega space fleet proved ineffective against the Cyberons, but the combined efforts of Emily, Corrigan, Christian and Duncan ultimately destroyed the Cyberons from the inside, even foiling their trump-card, an attempted giant laser-blast directly from their giant ship to the station. Corrigan died in the process, and got a symbolic funeral in one of the Station's envirochambers, also being recognised posthumously as an admiral rather than a mere captain. The funeral was attended by Emily and Christian, although they weren't sure they intended to stay on Vega beyond that point. (PROSE: Cybergeddon)
Behind the scenes[[edit]]
Less than a year before the release of the original Cybergeddon audio drama, the BBC Eighth Doctor Adventures novel Demontage featured a space station also called Vega Station, although it was much smaller and existed at an earlier point in time. In the 2021 novelisation of Cybergeddon, which officially brought its events into the Doctor Who universe, vague hints were added that the 40th century version had grown from the humble neutral-zone outpost of Demontage, although they were kept at a minimum due to the copyright conundrum involved.
