Battle of Passchendaele

The Battle of Passchendaele was a major battle of World War I in Passchendaele on the Western Front. (PROSE: Torchwood: The Encyclopedia [+]Loading...["Torchwood: The Encyclopedia (reference book)"]) The First Doctor was on the field of battle and later regarded it as an awful event. (PROSE: Byzantium!) The Fifth Doctor listed Passchendaele as one of the many battlefields he had walked through. (PROSE: The King of Terror) Charley Pollard's uncle Jacques lost an arm during the battle. (AUDIO: The Next Life) Jack Harkness fought in the battle. He compared this battle and the Battle of the Somme to "walking into Hell". (TV: To the Last Man)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Battle of Passchendaele is also known as the Third Battle of Ypres as a result of the two towns being very close to each other. Fighting at Ypres during World War I is mentioned in PROSE: Illegal Alien but the real world connections between the battles at Ypres and Passchendaele have yet to be referenced in the DWU.
