One of the Eternals, a race worshiped by the Time Lords of Gallifrey was known as Time. It chose the Doctor as it's champion, but when Gallifrey was destroyed in the Time war, Time surrendered the Doctor to Death (another Eternal) and took a new champion - Sean Fenton
