Pharaoh Akhenaten, formerly Amenhotep, was a king of Egypt in the 14th century BC.

When Amenhotep was born he was named in honour of the god Amun like his father, the pharaoh before him. His reign began ca. 1373 BC. He came to worship the Aten, changed his name to Akhenaten, and outlawed the worship of all other gods. He moved the capital of Egypt from Thebes to the hastily constructed Akhetaten in Amarna. In 1366 BC, seven years into his reign, Ace joined with the outlawed cult of Set to remove him from power. She kidnapped Akhenaten but he convinced her that he was no more a tyrant than any other pharaoh and that she was being used. (NA: Set Piece)

In 1334 BC, he was the husband of Queen Nefertiti who considered him a human sleeping potion. She referred to him as Amenhotep. (DW: Dinosaurs on a Spaceship)
