{{map}} is a simple way to make a map appear on a page. By typing {{map}} on the page Bristol Channel, you'd get this:
Location information
Though it's possible that a real world location doesn't exist in the same geographic space in the Doctor Who universe, such cases are few and far between. Thus, the map to the right is probably a good indicator of the DWU location of Map/doc.
Provisos
Well, you'd almost get that. Actually, it would put the PAGENAME of the current page in several different locations, and that replacement function can't be shown smoothly here on this page.
There are some user-definable terms:
- {{map|place name|nn|type of map}}
where
- the place name defaults to the PAGENAME
- nn is equal to the level of magnification. Default is 6 which very neatly places most cities in the middle of the frame. Smaller towns may need to have a number as high as 12. Individual buildings may require something more like 20.
- the type of map is by default terrain. In many cases, this shouldn't be touched. (That's why it's the default!) But if you're trying to identify a building or a campus or some other similarly tight area, you might want to change to hybrid so that you can display a specific building and still have a label. Other possible values that would be acceptable on this wiki in certain circumstances include roadmap, satellite, physical and, very rarely, earth.
