• The last time the Brig was in Doctor Who was in the 1989 episode Battlefield.
• The Sontarans last appeared in Doctor who in two parter The Sontaran Stratagem and The Poison Sky.
• The Time Warrior was the first episode to introduce Sarah Jane and the Sontarans. There was also an appearence with the Brig in that episode but with no interaction with the Sontaran.

Rumours

• The symbol on the collar of the Sontaran shown in the trailer is similar to the one on Staals collar. This could mean that he survived the destruction of the Tenth Sontaran Battle Fleet, therefore being 'The Last Sontaran'. The Sontaran that features in this episode is identical to Staal.
