History of the Doctor Who Universe
The Zen Military, Kadiatu Lethbridge-Stewart's expose of the history of UNIT, is published following the expiration of the thirty year rule for official secrets ("Set Piece").
28-29 June
Big Ben is side-swiped by a UFO which crashes into the Thames. An "alien" astronaut which turns out to be a surgically enhanced and modified pig is retrieved from the wreck, then shot when it tries to escape from Albion Hospital. The Doctor discovers the hoax to have been orchestrated by the Slitheen Family, who have gained control of Britain's government and plan to launch the Earth into nuclear war, after which they plan to sell the planet's radioactive rubble as starship fuel. Their plan is thwarted, but only after 10 Downing Street is destroyed by a Harpoon missile and all but one of the Earth's leading experts on aliens are killed. Backbencher MP Harriet Jones, who assisted the Doctor and Rose, is later elected Prime Minister. Her three-term administration ushers in a new Golden Age for Britain ("Aliens of London," "World War Three").
December
The Doctor and Ruby Duvall stop the Cybermen's latest attempt to conquer Earth by preventing the magnetic field reversal that would have created worldwide chaos under which the Cybermen planned to invade ("Iceberg").
