Parallel world (Turn Left)

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Donna's World is a rewritten version of the official timeline created when Donna Noble turned right instead of left while deciding which of two different job interviews to attend. It is not actually a parallel world since the walls between realities were sealed in Doomsday. This was made explicit by the production team.

This name is conjectural and is not is actually used by any of the characters.

Origin

While on Shan Shen, Donna Noble was unknowingly fitted with a time beetle, part of the Trickster's Brigade. A fortune teller selected a point in her life where making seemingly random choice had enormous ramifications.

In June 2007 Donna had to make a choice between two jobs. The moment she chose between the jobs was at a junction. Her agency had offered her a contract with H.C. Clements, which while temporary, was posh and in the centre of London, which Donna enjoyed. Her mother, Sylvia Noble, had managed to get her another job opportunity to become the personal secretary of Jival Chowdry, owner of a photocopying business. Although this would be a permanent job, Donna found it less interesting.

While driving and in discussing the dilemma, Sylvia pressured her into turning right to stop by Jival Chowdry for a chat. While in the regular timeline Donna ignored her mother and turned left, in this timeline she turned right, resulting in her taking the PA job.

Alternate Timeline

December 2007: The Doctor tracks down the Empress of the Racnoss to the Torchwood base underneath the Thames Barrier and blows it up, which floods the whole thing. Although the Empress of the Racnoss and her offspring drown, the Doctor is unable to escape and dies too quickly to regenerate. The TARDIS is salvaged from under the Thames and sent to a UNIT base in Leeds.

In the original timeline, the Doctor met Donna Noble who saved his life when she told him to stop after the Doctor blows up the Torchwood base.

April 2008: The Judoon H2O Scoop the Royal Hope Hospital to the Moon to find a Plasmavore criminal and her Slab accomplices. Although they found and killed the alien criminals, the Plasmavore had already armed the MRI. Sarah Jane Smith, Luke Smith, Maria Jackson, and Clyde Langer managed to disarm it but died along with the rest of the hospital when the oxygen ran out. The only survivor was Oliver Morgenstern who was passed the last oxygen tank by Martha Jones, who died.

In the original timeline, the Doctor investigates the hospital instead of Sarah Jane, Luke, Maria and Clyde under the alias "Mr Smith" and no-one suffocates because he found the Plasmavore in time. Shortly after, he took on Martha Jones as a companion.

In this timeline, the Saxon regime never started because the Doctor, Martha and Jack never went to the End of the Universe to remind Professor Yana that he was the Master. It is unknown what happened to Richard Lazarus as Mr Saxon was never able to finance his experiment as in the original timeline. It appears that, because the Master/Mr Saxon wasn't around in the 21st century, the Archangel Network or the Valiant were never designed or built.

December 2008: A replica of the RMS Titanic crash-lands onto Buckingham Palace, which destroys the Greater London Area and floods the whole of Southern England with nuclear radiation.

In the original timeline, this crisis was averted thanks to the Doctor. Although the city was nearly abondoned in the main timeline, this seems not to be the case here.

2009: The United States promises fifty billion pounds in financial help for Great Britain but this plan has to be abandoned when sixty million Americans were fully converted into Adipose children.

In the original timeline, the plan was stopped before it was put in full swing thanks to the Doctor and Donna Noble. The change in location was probably due to the crisis in South England.

2009: The Sontarans activate the ATMOS devices in the cars to convert Earth into a breeding ground. Although Jack Harkness is stranded on Sontar, Gwen Cooper and Ianto Jones give their lives to revert the atmosphere to its previous state and destroy the Sontaran flagship.

In the original timeline, the Sontaran invasion of Earth was prevented by the Doctor, Donna, Martha Jones and UNIT. The Doctor was able to clear the atmosphere without the assistance (or sacrifice) of any Torchwood members.

Negation

UNIT and Rose Tyler sent Donna back to the time where the worlds split. To make her past self turn left, she headed from her landing location to the road where her past self was in her car. Running out of time, Donna jumped out in front of a lorry. Although she died, a traffic jam quickly blocked the route right from the past Donna, so the past Donna chose to turn left. (DW: Turn Left) Donna's world was presumably negated.

Discontinuity, Plot Holes, Errors

  • How is it possible for the Doctor to die too quickly to regenerate? The Doctor can be vulnerable during the process of dying and regeneration is not always guaranteed.
  • The shaking and sound of the Royal Hope Hospital dissapearing happens before it actually occurs whereas in Smith and Jones they were heard during the incident. It is telling the audience what happens now because those that have watched Smith and Jones will know what the clouds above the hospital refers to.
  • When the Titanic spaceship hits Buckingham Palace, how come the entire Greater London Area is destroyed? The engines have to be pretty powerful to power a large spaceship.
  • When the news is showing the March of the Adipose in America, the footage shown is the March of the Adipose taking place in London. They used the same footage to show what had happened
  • Why is Jack Harkness teleported to Sontar? Since he can't die, the Sontarans probably learnt about this and transported him either for further study or to fight on the front line in Sontaran-Rutan War.
  • If the stars were being destroyed because of the reality bomb, it would take millions of years for people on Earth to see them going out. The stars going out is just a plot device to get Rose back into Doctor Who and to show the effects of the reality bomb.
  • How come when the Titanic hit London the whole Earth didn't get destroyed like Max Capricorn planned? Alonso Frame may have been able to reduce the effect of the Titanic crashlanding. In this episode it is seen slightly to pull up, in stead of going straight down.
