A temple was a religious building for ceremonies of many kinds. Temples could be many shapes and sizes. They were usually quite large, but not always. Temples could also be called chapels, churches or cathedrals.

Temples could contain religious iconography, statuary and altars. They were used for many purposes: sacrificial ceremonies, celebrations, worship, specific and specilised ceremonies as well as just for hiding in. (PROSE: The Price of Paradise)

There was a pyramid-shaped temple on an asteroid in the Rings of Akhaten that contained the Mummy. (TV: The Rings of Akhaten)
