The Last Sontaran, based upon the televised story of the same name, is the first novelisation of a story from Series 2 of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Deviations from the Televised Story
- The novelisation features a specially written prologue. It describes how Kaagh went off the Tenth Sontaran Battle Fleet and crashed on Earth. Furthermore the experiences of the Sarah Jane gang with ATMOS were told.
Continuity
- Sarah Jane rembembered her encounters with the Sontaran. She tought about Linx (TV: The Time Warrior) and Styre (TV: The Sontaran Experiment).
