On 18 April 1906, the city of San Francisco on Earth was ravaged by an earthquake and then consumed by fire. Thanks to the Seventh Doctor's interference, the gateway through which the creature Azathoth and her rakshassi army hoped to invade Earth opened not in the India of 1887 but in the lobby of the Palace Hotel. Azathoth and her followers were consumed in the fire, while the Doctor, Ace, Benny, Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson escaped. The Doctor departed for England to retrieve his TARDIS, materialising in San Francisco mere moments after he left his companions, although the trip to England took three months. Holmes and Watson rejected the Doctor's offer to join him in his travels. He returned them to Baker Street in 1887. (PROSE: All-Consuming Fire)

On 25 June, Edward Grainger was born to Lawrence and Mary Grainger. (PROSE: Prologue) Also, the Bruce Master escaped the Eye of Harmony within the Doctor's TARDIS and returned to Earth where he possessed the bodies of human natives. (PROSE: Forgotten)

Lady Edith Greystone died of influenza. (PROSE: 64 Carlysle Street)

Professor Alexander Hugh of Oxford University built a time portal from cannibalised alien technology. He, his assistant Annabella Primavera and Torchwood agents Robert Lewis and Eliza Cooper went through the portal, ending up on an unnamed planet in the far future. The Tenth Doctor returned Hugh home in the TARDIS, where his companion Emily Winter decided to stay with him. (COMIC: Final Sacrifice)

On 24 December, the Eighth Doctor and Charley Pollard briefly visited Edward Grove and met with Edith Thompson. (AUDIO: The Chimes of Midnight)

On 24 December in an alternate timeline, Edward Grove became alive due to a time loop caused by the temporal paradox created by Edith Thompson's suicide in 1930 over the death of Charley on the R101. The paradox was resolved when the Doctor talked Edith out of suicide, thus negating this timeline. (AUDIO: The Chimes of Midnight)

On 26 December, the Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon and Victoria Waterfield visited Middleton, Suffolk. (PROSE: The Cutty Wren)
