Bernice Summerfield found her suspicious. It turned out Veronica was behind everyone getting colds and being eaten at the Braxiatel Collection. She was really a plant that took the form of a human woman. In order to keep that facade up, she needed people's love and with powers that helped her influence that, she was able to fool everyone and make them love her.
