Sue Vertue was the producer of The Curse of Fatal Death. She was therefore the second female producer of a televised and BBC-sanctioned Doctor Who story, behind only Verity Lambert. However, she is much better known as one of the foremost producers of British situation comedies.

Her production career extends back to the early 1990s, when she was hired by Tiger Aspect to help make Mr. Bean. She went on to produce The Vicar of Dibley and Gimme Gimme Gimme before meeting and marrying Steven Moffat. In the mid-1990s, she left Tiger Aspect to join her mother's company, Hartswood Films. Moffat joined her and they made Coupling together.

Hartswood and by extension Vertue, has continued making successful programmes — including of significance to Doctor Who fans, 2007's Fear Stress & Anger, starring Peter Davison and Georgia Moffett.

In about 2009 she moved to Cardiff and established a temporary Hartswood office there. From that office she is producing Sherlock, written by her husband, Mark Gatiss, and Steve Thompson. Hartswood Cardiff will move into a more permanent location in the upcoming "BBC Drama Village", next to the Doctor Who production facilities.

She is the wife of Steven Moffat and the daughter of Beryl Vertue.
