"Friend of Dorothy" was a euphemism for gay men in the 1980s. David Daniels told Chris Cwej that a certain fireman was a "definite friend of Dorothy".

Hailing as he did from the 30th century, Chris simply wondered who Dorothy was. He privately considered that the TARDIS translation circuits must have been malfunctioning. (AUDIO: Damaged Goods)

Behind the scenes

The phrase refers to Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, as played by gay icon Judy Garland.
