"Anakim" was a word that meant "watchers". The Greek word was Grigori. In the Book of Enoch and Book of Noah, the Anakim were a highly-advanced civilisation of angels who sat and watched the world.
Some Anakim preferred intervention and rebelled against their race's isolationism. Led by Azazel, a group of these interventionists – remembered in Arabic mythology as the djinn – descended from "the high place" and lived among the lesser species, reproducing with them and creating monstrous offspring. Finally, the Anakim warred against the rebels, capturing and exiling them. This was understood in later centuries as an account of the War against the Yssgaroth, with the Anakim representing the Great Houses. (PROSE: The Book of the War)
