Harem

A harem was the secluded part of a house allotted to female members (wives, concubines, and servants) of a Muslim household during the Middle Ages. In the 12th century, the Saracen Emir El Akir maintained a harem, in which he notably kept captured female slaves. During one of her time travelling adventures with the First Doctor, the 20th century teacher Barbara Wright was detained there for a time. (TV: The Crusade) In the 15th century, the Turkish sultan Mehmed the Conqueror and his Wallachian proxy Radu the Handsome also had harems of their own. (AUDIO: Son of the Dragon) The harem of a fictional Arab sheik featured in a film directed by Ingmar Knopf. (TV: The Daleks' Master Plan)
