Yembe was a chief of the Rokoye village in Sierra Leone in the 1950s. He had at least two wives. Yembe and his youngest wife were the parents of three daughters. One of whom was Mariatu, who fathered Mariama with Lt Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart.
A 21st century descendant of theirs, Yembe Lethbridge-Stewart, was named in his honour. (PROSE: Transit)
