Liu Hui Ying was a translator living in China during the Boxer Rebellion sent to recover artifacts stolen by British nationals. In doing so, by dint of her witchblood she became wrapped up in a plot by Compassion to use humans as a power source before finally bonding with Octavia Sutherland and escaping.
