Ab urbe condita (AUC) was Latin for "From the Foundation of the City". It was the basis of the Roman calendar.

The traditional date of the foundation of Rome was 1 AUC (753 BC). The Battle of Actium took place in 723 AUC (31 BC). (PROSE: State of Change)
