Thanks for your edits! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is a great time to have joined us, because now you can play the Game of Rassilon with us and win cool stuff! Well, okay, badges. That have no monetary value. And that largely only you can see. But still: they're cool!
We've got a couple of important quirks for a Wikia wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.
British English, please
We generally use British English round these parts, so if you're American, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.
Spoilers aren't cool
We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.
Other useful stuff
Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:
- the listing of all our help, policy and guideline pages
- our Manual of Style
- our image use policy
- our user page policy
- a list of people whose job it is to help you
If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! — you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:
Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:Thanks for becoming a member of the TARDIS crew! If you have any questions, see the Help pages, add a question to one of the Forums or ask on my talk page. Doug86 ☎ 11:55, January 31, 2016 (UTC)
Images
Hi! Glad that you asked. It's always easier to explain things to people who listen than to people who think they are right from the start. The real question you meant was: why did I delete the image. Because after the image was deleted, I hope you agree, there was no point keeping a reference to it on the page. The reasons are manifold. I only stated the most obvious one in the deletion summary: the image lacked a licence. Without such, it is impossible to determine whether the image is allowable under our policies (for instance, promotional images cannot illustrate story pages), nor whether it might be in violation of copyright. But that was not the only problem. The image was too narrow: the minimum is 420px, with the recommended width of at least 500px, whereas the image you uploaded was only 330px wide. The image was also portrait-style, which is disallowed except for book/magazine covers. I would recommend you to familiarise yourself with Help:Image cheat card, Tardis:Guide to images and Tardis:Image use policy for starters. Please don't hesitate to ask if something is unclear. Tardis:Administrators are happy to help. Amorkuz ☎ 19:02, March 6, 2018 (UTC)
T:SPOIL
You might want to read T:OFFICIAL INFO.
- What, then, do we do with information that comes from a reputable source like the BBC itself? We use it only on the series page. It cannot be used elsewhere.
The page you applied a delete tag to is perfectly kosher, as you can see by three admins contributing to it. Or the banner that links to our spoiler policy that discusses how series pages can have spoilers. In general it's true, we can't have spoilers. But it's often wise to check the policy or ask an admin if you're not sure just in case. Najawin ☎ 03:56, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
Re: Hentai deletion
Hey! Just a heads-up, I removed your proposed deletion template at Hentai. Certainly uploading the thing itself would be reprehensible, but the fact that Doctor Who "isn't anime" is irrelevant; Doctor Who isn't a Disney property either. But Disney exists in-universe, hence having a page for it. And the same goes for hentai. That's the thing — the Wiki's general policy is that anything mentioned in a story we cover can get a page, no matter how briefly mentioned.
As a matter of common decency we have made a special, grandfathered-in exception to this page for the pages we could theoretically have for real-world slurs. But that is not a license to delete any page whose subject matter seems "gross" or "inappropriate". I'm not wild on the canonical existence of hentai in the DWU, but you've got to take that up with Dave Stone (who wrote Burning Heart) and his ilk. Scrooge MacDuck ☎ 21:14, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
