Paisley was a design involving tear themed symbols, invented on ancient Persia and named after a Scottish town.[source needed]

The Doctor wore scarves and ties of paisley during his seventh incarnation. (TV: Time and the Rani, onwards) He also wore waistcoats of paisley-brocade during his eighth incarnation. (TV: Doctor Who, The Night of the Doctor)

John Ellis wore a crimson paisley scarf when he landed on the 21st century. (TV: Out of Time)
