Church was the term for a building that was used for worship, often in relation to religion. The term 'church' could also be used in relation to a specific religion.

Beneath St. Jude's Church in 9th century a flask containing Fenric was buried, it would later be uncovered in the 1943. (DW: The Curse of Fenric)

In the 1970s the Azal located himself within a church in Devil's End, following a confrontation between the Doctor, the Master and his ultimate defeat by Jo Grant lead to the church's destruction.
