The bandits was a term that the settlers of Dustville (a colony at the final frontier), used to describe these huge savage creatures that ran amok throughout the town every noon causing damage and stealing supplies. The bandits were composed of living crystals hiding in the Wastes outside the town. The heat from the twin suns created a chemical change that brought the bandits to life for short periods of time. When they refused to live peacefully alongside the settlers the Tenth Doctor (with Ben McGill's help), took away their physical form using rain (created by atmospheric excitation). Once reduced to ‘puddles’, the bandits are collected up in buckets and relocated to a new home by the Doctor in the TARDIS.
