RiffTrax is an American production company specialising in applying humourous and satirical audio commentaries (known as "riffing") to preexisting films and other video content.

Dr. Who and the Daleks, Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D., and The Five Doctors have all been subjects of RiffTrax's riffing.

Format[[edit] | [edit source]]

RiffTrax's main range of releases feature comedians poking fun at films in satirical commentary tracks. The project is a conceptual spinoff of cult television series Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) and the main range of RiffTrax releases star former MST3K actors and writers Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett.

Releases under the "RiffTrax Presents" range feature contributors other than the main cast, including Big Finish contributors Ian Potter and Matthew Elliott.

Home Media Releases[[edit] | [edit source]]

Some of RiffTrax's riff releases take the form of standalone audio files the viewer plays in sync with their own separately-acquired copy of the targeted film, avoiding the need for RiffTrax to secure release rights to the film itself. Other RiffTrax releases, including Dr. Who and the Daleks and Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D., have had all necessary release rights negotiated and are made available as full streaming and downloadable Video On Demand editions of the complete films with applied RiffTrax commentary.

Though RiffTrax sells the original unriffed versions of certain films in their catalogue, they do not sell the Dalek films unriffed.

Live performance[[edit] | [edit source]]

RiffTrax perform live theatrical riffings in events simulcast to cinemas throughout the United States and Canada via Fathom Events, and often released later as a VOD. On 17 August 2017 they performed a live riff of The Five Doctors (Special Edition) with an encore showing of the event 24 August 2017,[1]. This riff has not been made available in recorded form.
