All right, I don't agree, but... Why can't the novelisation policy apply? If it can cover minor contradictions, why can't it cove major ones (and I don't call these major, as long as the story's fundamentally the same)? It's as simple as accepting the bits where it doesn't contradict, and ignoring what does.
