About Me

Just a fairly recent convert to the old Doc after a chance encounter in a library this past autumn (rather a Whovian incident in itself I suppose!). The first episode I saw was Rose. When the 'mannequins' started to come alive in the department store basement and lurch after her, I thought 'this is great!' but I guess I was hooked from the scene when the Doctor leaves Rose's flat and she runs after him, demanding to know who he was and he has that incredible dialogue:

It's like when you were a kid. The first time they tell you the world's turning and you just can't quite believe it because everything looks like it's standing still. I can feel it.

(takes her hand)

The turn of the Earth. The ground beneath our feet is spinning at a thousand miles an hour, and the entire planet is hurtling around the sun at sixty-seven thousand miles an hour, and I can feel it. We're falling through space, you and me. Clinging to the skin of this tiny little world, and if we let go...

(lets go of her hand)

That's who I am. Now, forget me.

I remember thinking, how could she ever forget him? How could anyone?

You never forget your first Doctor!!! ;)

I am most familiar with the new series, but am only an initiate learning more as I go and expanding my appreciation! The show is just a welcome distraction from my very different 'day job' as a graduate student with little time to spare! It appealed most to me as a rekindling of feelings of childhood really, with the current season's themes providing this in spades. Who wouldn't like to be lying in bed one night to hear faintly that familiar 'whoosh whoosh' - to jump up and run to the window - that blue box standing in the moonlight of your backyard, lantern gleaming - the door slowly opening and an orange light spilling out - a silhouette appearing... ;)

cheers!
