God, also known as the Old God (AUDIO: Escape Room) or the Lord, (AUDIO: Future Pain) was a being who travelled from planet to planet answering prayers and feeding off of faith, ultimately resulting in the destruction of the world's people.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Before Earth[[edit] | [edit source]]

By the 2010s, God was so old that she could not remember if she had any other name, nor what kind of being she was. (AUDIO: Thoughts and Prayers) She travelled from world to world with her arrival preceded by the Herald, who prepared the inhabitants for her. (AUDIO: Herald of the Dawn, Future Pain) She fed on the faith of those that worshipped her and heard all of their prayers. However, granting these prayers always resulted in the destruction of the world. (AUDIO: Day Zero, Thoughts and Prayers)

The Sorvix fled from their home planet to Cardiff in the late 2010s when God came to them. This time, the Herald hid from God in the body of Gwen Cooper. (AUDIO: Herald of the Dawn) When the Sorvix left, God was trapped. (AUDIO: Escape Room) Bilis Manger sent the location of Earth to God through the Rift. (AUDIO: A Kill to a View) She eventually came to Cardiff through the Rift at Torchwood Three Hub. (AUDIO: Herald of the Dawn)

Arriving in Cardiff[[edit] | [edit source]]

Taking the form of a human, God attended St John Colchester's funeral and talked to Tyler Steele, who told her that he would give anything to bring Mr Colchester back. (AUDIO: Future Pain) Answering Tyler's prayer, she resurrected him, (AUDIO: Day Zero) and she also gave Jack a taste of mortality. (AUDIO: Thoughts and Prayers)

God briefly met Brent Hayden in a pub and granted his wish for more subscribers to his channel, Tomorrow's Truth. (AUDIO: The Man Who Destroyed Torchwood)

As balance was required, God had to let "a couple of things" through the Rift after bringing back Mr Colchester. (AUDIO: Thoughts and Prayers) The first was a predator that brought its own darkness and from whom God saved Ng and Orr. (AUDIO: See No Evil)

The second was the Night Sun, which God allowed to feed on the dreams of the people of Cardiff. She employed Orr to keep the people of the city safe and to find and absorb the blue lights that accompanied the Night Sun, making people point to where the lights were. Afterwards, she revealed her love to Orr, who turned into a puddle. (AUDIO: Night Watch)

God met Norton Folgate on Flight 405, bringing his attention to the skeleton under a tarpaulin and telling him to remember who his "true friends" were. (AUDIO: Flight 405) She appeared again to Tyler whilst he was homeless, giving him some tomato soup and telling him that he had saved a life. (AUDIO: Hostile Environment)

To test Ng and Torchwood, God used Evolved technology stolen from the Committee to switch the bodies of Mr Colchester, Jack Harkness, Yvonne Hartman and Andy Davidson. She led Ng to her, in an ice cream van, and told her what she had done and why. She later bumped into Andy and ruminated on the end of the world. (AUDIO: Another Man's Shoes)

Tsunami and aftermath[[edit] | [edit source]]

Posing as a nurse at Bide-a-Wee Care Home, God spoke to Roy, a member of the Committee, about Torchwood's ongoing actions. He told her that the Committee had manipulated her into causing the tsunami, which would not have happened if God had not spoken to Norton. They were both in the care home when the tsunami hit. (AUDIO: Eye of the Storm)

Feeling that she had lost all that she had after being manipulated by the Committee, God watched the Disaster Recovery Committee's inquiry and spoke to Bethan Foster about it, hinting that there was something in the water. (AUDIO: A Mother's Son) She secretly transferred her powers to Orr so that she would be of no use to the Committee. (AUDIO: Thoughts and Prayers)

On Day Zero, God sat in a café, being served by Alice, and met Yvonne. She encouraged Yvonne to believe in herself and, once it started raining, dismissed Alice before being arrested by Andy. (AUDIO: Day Zero)

God was taken to a cell containing Jack's body and went with him to the Hub after he revived. She attempted to take her powers back from Orr through sex but was unable to. After Yvonne used the Lens to direct Orr's powers through the dimension bridge to destroy the Committee's final form and Erebus, God was left powerless and decided to explore the world and perhaps open a coffee shop. (AUDIO: Thoughts and Prayers)

Legacy[[edit] | [edit source]]

Orr believed that "getting off" with God made her more empathic. (AUDIO: Aliens Next Door)

Powers[[edit] | [edit source]]

God had the power to grant people's wishes, although balance was needed. For example, when she resurrected Mr Colchester per Tyler's wish, she had to allow a predator (AUDIO: See No Evil) and the Night Sun (AUDIO: Night Watch) through the Rift. (AUDIO: Thoughts and Prayers) She also had the power of hypnosis, (AUDIO: The Man Who Destroyed Earth) the ability to teleport, (AUDIO: Night Watch, Flight 405) to see from afar (AUDIO: Eye of the Storm) and was able to see through the predator's darkness and tell it to leave. (AUDIO: See No Evil)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • Jacqueline King was credited as a "mourner" on the Big Finish website for God Among Us 1. She appeared in little scenes throughout the first three episodes of God Among Us, and only in the final episode of the first box-set her character revealed herself as God, exclusively to Orr. In the audio credits for the first box-set she was named "God", as well as on the Big Finish website starting with second box-set.
