Credit crunch of 2008

A credit crunch occurred in 2008. Pittman suggested that the event had parallels to the fall of the French aristocracy in the 1790s. (TV: The Curse of Clyde Langer)

Harry Sowersby stated that the credit crunch was one of the factors for the Danemouth Pleasure Park closing down, saying that "people can't afford to have fun anymore". (TV: The Mad Woman in the Attic)

A recession occurred in 2011 in the wake of Miracle Day. (TV: The Gathering) As Rhys Williams learnt on the television news, a run on the banks was anticipated, which he likened to "a Lehman Brothers' thing". Noting that everything had been on a "knife edge" since 2008, Rhys said that the pension funds would go bankrupt because of the Miracle and set off a domino effect. He went on to suggest that 2008 was instigated by the Three Families as the first stage of the plan, with Gwen Cooper conceding that it was possible. (TV: End of the Road)
