Voodoo

Voodoo or vodoun was a religion. According to the Eighth Doctor, its rituals involved closing the superpositions of matter itself. (PROSE: The City of the Dead)

In 1915, Gilles Lemaitre used the vodoun ritual of Wete Mo Nan Dlo in an attempt to restore Cthulhu. Before he could succeed, the Seventh Doctor managed to set explosives in the tomb which killed Lemaitre and resealed the Great Old One. Faction Paradox used a brand of technology powered by a type of voodoo rather than any actual form of physics. (PROSE: Interference - Book One [+]Loading...["Interference - Book One (novel)"])

Grandfather Paradox was called the "voodoo priest of the House of Lungbarrow", He was imprisoned in Shada. When the Carnival Queen threatened rationality throughout the universe, Lady President Romana had an epileptic fit during which she signed a release order for three hundred prisoners, including the Grandfather. The Tenth Doctor called blood control a "cheap bit of voodoo", and likened it to hypnosis. (TV: The Christmas Invasion [+]Loading...["The Christmas Invasion (TV story)"]) The Seventh Doctor likewise considered blood control to be voodoo. (AUDIO: Harvest of the Sycorax [+]Loading...["Harvest of the Sycorax (audio story)"])

Hoochie Pie disparagingly dismissed the Fifteenth Doctor's TARDIS and its dimensional transcendentalism as "voodoo". (TV: Dot and Bubble [+]Loading...["Dot and Bubble (TV story)"])

Notes

  • In the real world, vodou is a religion which mixes African religions with Catholic rituals. Many portrayals of voodoo in pop culture portray it in an extremely sensationalist manner.
