Andrew X was a citizen of Terra Alpha and brother of Harold V.
Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]
Andrew X (PROSE: The Happiness Patrol [+]Loading...["The Happiness Patrol (novelisation)"]) lived on Terra Alpha during Helen A's reign. Whilst his brother, Harold F, was a gag writer for Helen A, (TV: The Happiness Patrol [+]Loading...["The Happiness Patrol (TV story)"]) Andrew X secretly wrote about the oppression on the planet and smuggled his books off-world to Terra Omega where they regularly made the best-seller lists. Publishing under a pseudonym, he became something of a celebrity on Terra Omega, although he was unable to visit as his identity card had been confiscated.
An Alphan agent spent five years attempting to deduce the identity of the anonymous writer and eventually pieced the truth together thanks to a poem Andrew X had written about a crumbling theatre near his home. The Happiness Patrol arrested him, burnt his manuscripts and destroyed his printing presses, but he remained smiling. He was placed in solitary confinement and interrogated for six months until Helen A lost interest and ordered his execution. Wrongfully accused of "an ostentatious display of public grief", (PROSE: The Happiness Patrol [+]Loading...["The Happiness Patrol (novelisation)"]) Andrew X was killed with a fondant surprise by the Kandy Man.
