According to Varun Singh, "literally" was "a good word that young people squander". In October 2016, he told Ram not to abuse it when he said he might "literally go insane" if he reminded him one more time about football practice in the morning. Similarly, Romana II tired of people using the word "literally" to mean figuratively. She said she "[found] people who use the word 'literally' when they don't mean it, literally very annoying".

When K9 Mark II told Romana that Leela had "literally vanished", she began with the assumption that he had used the term correctly. (AUDIO: Lies [+]Loading...["Lies (audio story)"])
