Spaced is a British sit-com which was written by, and starred both Simon Pegg and Jessica Hynes (credited at the time as Jessica Stevenson). The series contained references to many pop-culture and cult series, such as Doctor Who and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, amongst others. The shop in which Pegg's character works, for instance, has a door that is decorated to resemble the TARDIS. In a DVD commentary, it is also noted that this has extra significance, in that the stockroom on the other side of the door is notably bigger than the shop floor from which it opens.

Writer, actor and director Mark Gatiss, and voice/parody actor David Walliams also guest starred in the series.

Both Pegg and Hynes starred alongside each other in the Eighth Doctor Big Finish audio drama, Invaders from Mars. When Doctor Who was recomisioned, both would also go on to appear in the series, but on seperate occasions. Pegg played The Editor in The Long Game, and Hynes played Joan Redfern in Human Nature and The Family of Blood, as well as her great-granddaughter Verity Newman in The End of Time.
