Created in the 1992 novel Love and War Bernice Summerfield is one of only a handful of characters to have been successfully spun-off from Doctor Who. Born to Clair and Isaac Summerfield on Beta Caprisis in 2540 Bernice Summerfield is a drinker, an archaeologist (with a professorship) and one of the Seventh Doctor's longest serving companions.
