Summary
The Doctor takes Rose to Vanezia a city deticated to culture and art. Only they find the Opera House has something sinister about it.
Plot
A man is running through the streets of Vanezia when he is attacked by an advancing figure. Meanwhile, the Doctor and Rose land in the city. The Doctor detects that something is wrong. He finds out that the building he is facing is not in the book. A man called Frederico Gobbo tells him that it is an opera house. As they introduce themselves it turns out that the Doctor has heard of him before. As they wait in line for the opera, the Doctor gets in for free and gets a booth seat. The doctor detects that the music is out of place. All three of them go back stage but two robot creatures approach them. The Doctor and Rose are captured by the robots and are taken down to their lair. Frederico is given his orders to stay where he is. The Doctor and Rose soon find that the people that were being taken away were being drained for their energy. The Doctor finds the culprit is a Lurker called Magrillo, who is the owner of the Opera House. He reveals to the Doctor and Rose that many years ago a star fell and taught him how to build an Opera House. The Doctor tells him that it is a Rokathia Spaceships Black Box Recorder (a Telepathic Machine). The box has been sending out a Complex Mathematical Pattern. Magrillo gets angry at the Doctor and pulls a lever and the headsets the Doctor and Rose are under start pulling the music out of their heads. He tells Rose to fight the music and she starts to sing a song. The Doctor tells Magrillio that Frederico has no talent and tells Frederico to find the Black Bow. Frederico starts to sing it a song and crashes which blows up Magrillo's Minions. He dies along with the pian as the Doctor and Rose run out of the Opera House. Meanwhile the Black Box gives Frederico some Talent. As all three of them escape, the Opera House explodes. Later on The Doctor explains what just happens and as Frederico starts to play they both walk back to the TARDIS.

Continuity
There is little to suggest when this takes place in the timeline, beyond the fact it takes place after DW: The Christmas Invasion and before School Reunion, or after The Age of Steel and before Army of Ghosts. When reprinted by Panini in the The Betrothal of Sontar (graphic novel), the story is placed between the DWM stories Interstellar Overdrive (coincidentally also referencing music) and The Green-Eyed Monster, however the latter story explicitly takes place during the time Mickey Smith is a companion, so if Panini's placement is intended to suggest when Opera of Doom takes place, then it must take place before Mickey becomes a companion in School Reunion.
Timeline
- This story occurs after DWA: The Cat Came Back
- This story occurs before DWA: Gravestone House
