i think it is a bad thing becuse it takes the very heart out of doctor who i mean that is the shows name and running gag and if we were to find out the biggest/oldest secret in the who universe then it would ruin dr who (well for me anyway) -----Whooligist talk to me 18:56, February 12, 2012 (UTC)-----
I doubt if it would ruin the show for me (unless done really badly) but it would diminish it. There's nothing wrong with the occasional character (such as River) knowing the Doctor's name but the audience shouldn't and it should never become widely known within the "Whoniverse". --2.101.49.118talk to me 19:11, February 12, 2012 (UTC)
There's nothing inherently bad with the audience knowing the Doctor's name. Back when the show started, we didn't even know the name of his home planet or species, or have the slightest idea why he was travelling through space and time in a broken up TARDIS. The show wouldn't be what it is today if episodes like The War Games hadn't answered some of the big mysteries that were integral parts of the show back in the day. However, unless done really well, with lots of foreshadowing, I don't think that any name that Moffat can come up with would be impressive enough to live up to the audience's expectations. I wouldn't necessarily be against Moffat revealing the Doctor's name, but he would have to do it really well for it to work. What's more likely is that we'll just see him whispering his name to River, and we'll finally find out why his name is a secret, which is arguably a bigger myster than what his name actually is anyway.Icecreamdif talk to me 04:08, February 13, 2012 (UTC)
although if done well, it could be an asset to the show, chances are it will leave more people dissapointed. with a show with such history, there are some questions that just shouldn't be answered. however, i would like to find out WHY the doctor's name is a secret and why the other renegade timelords also changed their names. and i agree that on the fields of trenzalore the doctor will probably just whisper his name to river. on a side note, wouldn't it be funny if the first syllable of th doctor's name was "who"? Well, if nothing else, that could explain WOTAN calling him "Doctor Who" in The War Machines.Icecreamdif talk to me 15:45, February 13, 2012 (UTC)
If they ever do reveal his name, it had better not be Hugh! (Or any variant thereof.) --89.240.242.81talk to me 01:29, February 14, 2012 (UTC)
I'm not going to put my opinion (not here anyway) for a simple reason. As enthusiastic as I am about this discussion, it's not likely to be around for long, because it's too opinion based. I reccomend if this topic means a lot to you then you should move it to the Watercooler on Doctor Who Answers Wiki: http://drwho.answers.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:Watercooler 87.102.94.183talk to me 19:14, February 17, 2012 (UTC)
