User:Sinefirt has just moved a bunch of Doctor pages to new names, for example Johann Schmidt to Eighth Doctor (Klein's Story) and Meta-Crisis Tenth Doctor to Tenth Doctor (Journey's End). It appears there has been no community discussion for these rather large moves, and I think that is important before a user changes so many things.
I for one think that the pages should not be changed, as they are not all "The Doctor", but have their own names. Tardis1963 talk 23:07, January 7, 2012 (UTC)
- This is more of a wider question.
- I know we kind of have policies for everything, but do we need to add to the T:NO WARS or something that says something to the affect of "we've got the major articles named and linked, if you want to move them, please discuss it first"?
- Because sometimes with moves like this, it still surprises me that new editors haven't had a look around the wiki before making moves like this.
- Or do we, as we've done with the story titles move protect them? --Tangerineduel / talk 16:19, January 8, 2012 (UTC)
- On the specific issue of Tenth Doctor (Journey's End), that, to me, is a preferable title, because it obeys our standard disambiguation rules. I disagree with the Johann Schmidt move, because that is the name of the character, and it's against dab rules to use anything but the name given in narrative, unless there's a reason for disambiguation. As far as I know, there is no reason to change this to Eighth Doctor, because that identity is all implication, not direct statement, in the story. In other words, identification as the Eighth Doctor is best done as a behind the scenes note at Johann Schmidt.
- As for TD's point, T:MOVE LOCK already applies. We're completely at liberty to move lock any page, because the rationale for move locking story pages logically applies. Moving Sarah Jane Smith to Sarah Jane Smythe or First Doctor to First doctor would clearly have a deleterious effect on the database.
