Doctor Who 2021 Event was a planned graphic novel by Titan Publishing Group that would have starred Jack Harkness and would have tied into series 13 of Doctor Who: Flux, specifically episode 2, War of the Sontarans. An element from the novel's storyline was kept in the eventual episode, namely time windows, as seen with Yasmin Khan and Dan Lewis’s sudden disappearances through time.
The story would have involved Jack being transported by a time window to 19th century Cardiff, in which he would have to uncover the hidden activities of the Victorian era Torchwood Institute and figure out why time windows were popping up everywhere.
The novel's existence was first revealed via various online retailer listings for the novel's eventual trade paper compilation, itself initially slated 16 November 2021 release, though these listings were later removed, suggesting the novel had either been postponed or cancelled entirely.
Whilst no official reason was given for the novel not going ahead, its removal from listings coincided with the renewed sexual misconduct allegations against John Barrowman, which had also led to the Big Finish Torchwood audio story Absent Friends being pulled from its scheduled release, and Barrowman's contributions being removed from the Time Fracture stage show.[1][2][3]
Titan later began publishing a different Doctor Who storyline in late 2021, titled Empire of the Wolf. With its first issue released ten days after War of the Sontarans aired, this storyline used the new Sontaran design which had been featured in that episode, thus maintaining a connection between Titan's 2021 comic event and the second episode of Doctor Who: Flux.
