Dr. Who (unproduced comic story) was a three-page comic story by Brian Bolland for Lyncross in February 1979. However, the publication it was made for was never released, leaving the story unpublished.

You may wish to consult Dr. Who (disambiguation) for other, similarly-named pages.

The comic was an adaptation of Paul Crompton's Emsone's Castle, a comic story published in September 1978 in the Doctor Who Annual 1979.

Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • It is believed this comic was made for Lyncross Publishing Limited, a publisher that was established in September 1977 and dissolved in late 1979.[1]
  • Bolland's notes says the pages were in colour, but he did not remember them that way.[1] Artist Nick Neocleous remembered seeing the pages in colour when he visited Bolland's flat.[2]
  • Page 2 was published in Arkensword #13/14 (1985) and The Art of Brian Bolland (2006).
  • Pages 1 and 3 were colourised by Brian Bolland and published in Vworp Vworp! #1 & 2 collected (2020).
  • In the second panel, Zorka is misspelled as "Yorka".

Changes[[edit] | [edit source]]

Emsone's Castle and Dr. Who comparison
  • Leela was the Doctor's companion in Emsone's Castle. She was replaced with Romana I for this adaptation.
  • Krass is initially only half restored in Emsone's Castle. He is fully restored in the adaption.
  • Gurk has horns in Emsone's Castle. He has a beard in the adaptation.
  • Emsone is mostly bald and has a mustache in the adaptation. The adaptation also explains that he wears a helmet because he cannot breath the atmosphere of Zorka.
  • Emsone wants to put the Doctor's brain into a machine of his. In the adaptation, he wants to replace the Doctor's brain with his own brain.
