Durendal, named after the legendary sword of old, was the sword of the Knight Templar Henri d'Arrée in the late 12th century.
During his first fight with Krynoids, D'Arrée found that swords did little agains the plant-creatures. With Sergeant Alfred and his men-at-arms believing the Krynoid to be a "forest demon", D'Arrée dipped his blade in holy water from the font in the chapel of Earl Godfrey's castle before facing the Krynoid again. D'Arrée pointed out to the Earl himself that Durendal had no more effect on the creature than before, thus proving that whatever the Krynoids were, they were not "demons" as the humans understood the term.
