Edward Hardiman was a drinker and a gambler who saw the potential of a young boy named Anthony Bradshaw and his gift for foretelling the future. Edward paid for the boy and performed alongside him as his "Uncle" in a variety act, billed as "The Amazing Anthony – The Wonder of 1898". When he was exposed by Captain Jack Harkness as a fraud for not being able to honour the wager of one hundred guineas for any question Anthony was unable to answer, he agreed to hand over the boy and ran off.
