I've added a new option to the The Five Doctors page. A DVD section which looks great and which I tend to do for other pages on DVD, VHS, Audio and Novel releases but I would appreciate some help from anyone who wishes to help. --Vitas 09:46, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

A gallery of the DVD releases is fine, except you also edited out the information on the video releases. I've readded the information from a previous edit and added further detail. --Tangerineduel 13:38, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Just wanted to note I added the 25th aniversary cover as it had been forgotten--Skittles the hog The Master painting.jpg 18:27, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Do you think we could do this to every story that has a VHS and DVD release. --Vitas 08:00, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

It looks fine - I think this is a good idea Jack's the man - 12:44, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
A gallery you mean? I don't think so. It doesn't do justice to the information that some article have. Several articles outline more than just the covers (which while nice do not impart much information) The Mind Robber, An Unearthly Child, Time-Flight for example have the covers arranged along the right hand side while the information is kept to the left. This is a far more informative and efficient use of the space rather than just a gallery. Most of the articles have/will have separate elements to them for the VHS/DVD/Other releases. --Tangerineduel 12:40, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Outpost Gallifrey had something similar to their old site for each episode and to me it looked great. Also with what I added to The Five Doctors page, somehow it actually looks better rather than just all that info. --Vitas 07:40, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

The <gallery> function produces godawfully ugly pages, and fails to relate picture to text. It also can't be precisely controlled in any significant way. Your choices are left, center, or right justification. That's it. The pictures go where the command wants them to go. If I could do one thing to the base wikicode it would be to obliterate galleries.
However, given that it exists, it can be marginally successful if combined with the <center> command, and if each picture is fully described. See for instance this page on the Bionic wiki. That's a very specialized case, though, because there's just not enough to say about Bionic Woman lunchboxes to really support all those pictures, but users would find multiple pictures entertaining and more useful than trying to describe them. Sometimes, pictures are worth a thousand words. As for our usage, I'm with Tangerineduel on this one. Sorry, but The Five Doctors page is in no way as useful as the An Unearthly Child page in this respect. Could An Unearthly Child be reformatted along the lines of the lunchbox page? Maybe, and maybe it'd look better. But on a strict comparison of the way things are now, AUC beats the gallery at TFD. CzechOut | 07:14, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
In my experiance galleries should alway be avoided as it never works out and can be portrayed more effectivly using the AUC model however that said i think they still have there place on pages such as a cover artist, dispalying his work Dark Lord Xander 07:21, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
