Would there be any issue for anyone if we move protected all the TV story pages up to Series 6? As there was a recent spate of a few moves of story pages, and I was just thinking none of the stories broadcast thus far actually need to be able to be moved and the story names are tied to various templates and such like. --Tangerineduel / talk 12:42, June 7, 2011 (UTC)
Nope, I don't see anything wrong with this. Good plan.----Skittles the hog--Talk 15:16, June 7, 2011 (UTC)
- Harmless change, if extremely boring to execute manually. Bot in process of doing it now.

The majority are probably fine, but one of two might still need to be disambiguated with (TV story). I'm not sure. It's unlikely we're going to experience much vandalism on K9 pages, anyway.

So are all the Doctor Who story articles protected starting from 1960s episodes? And are they Semi or Fully protected? --User:Doctorpenguin 18:12, June 11, 2011 (UTC)
No, they're move protected. This means that only Admins can rename them.----Skittles the hog--Talk 18:20, June 11, 2011 (UTC)
- Although Skittles has done a thoroughly accurate job of describing the situation briefly, I do want to be super clear about this, because it's possible to misread the title and think we were talking about moving the protection of the articles to a different level.
- So here, in detail, is what's happened.
- There are three types of protection. We can restrict the ability to:
- edit an article
- create an article
- move an article to a new name

- The only one of these three things that's been affected by this discussion is your ability to move a TV story to another name. There's no need to rename, say, The Deadly Assassin, because that will always be the name of that serial. We were finding, however, that some users were moving articles about TV stories, and there's just no call to ever do it.
- This discussion in no way impairs your ability to edit TV stories — which is all that most editors really care about.
- That said, we do restrict editing on TV episodes that have not yet been broadcast, as per our spoiler policy. For instance, you may not create an article for Let's Kill Hitler until around the actual broadcast date.

Archivist's notes[[edit source]]
Logically, this policy may be applied to any story, regardless of medium. Indeed, admin reserve the right to move protect any article, particularly ones that are heavily linked, where there's no foreseeable reason why the title should change.
