Herbert Thomas Ellacombe (also known as HT Ellacombe) was a 19th century English vicar and friend of the Seventh Doctor.
The Reverend became inhabited by an alien which surveyed the Earth to find whether it was safe to invade. This was discovered by the Seventh Doctor and Melanie Bush, who foiled the alien's plan and left him to continue living within the Reverend. (AUDIO: The Devil's Footprints)
