Geoffrey was one of the men-at-arms of the 12th century Earl Godfrey, under the command of Sergeant Alfred. He was a part of the defence of the Earl's castle against a Krynoid siege, and ended up falling into the moat where some weeds "came to life" to drag him down and drown him — the first time Godfrey's men witnessed the Krynoid's power to control other plant-life to do its bidding.
