Jenkins was a UNIT soldier who served under Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart during the 1970s.
Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]
Jenkins was present during the events at Devil's End following the excavation of the Devil's Hump by Professor Gilbert Horner.
He was at the heat barrier around Devil's End while Sergeant Tom Osgood was working on the diathermic energy exchanger to penetrate the barrier. Osgood asked at one point "Right, Jenkins. Have you got that junction box lined up?"
When the Brigadier and Captain Mike Yates later encountered Bok outside the church, the Brigadier called to Jenkins and gave the order "Chap with wings there. Five rounds rapid!" Jenkins opened fire with his assault rifle to try to destroy the animated stone gargoyle, but the bullets ricocheted off harmlessly and had no effect.
Jenkins was also among the UNIT soldiers who captured the Master at gunpoint after his attempt to escape in Bessie was foiled by the Third Doctor's remote control unit. (TV: The Dæmons)
Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Jenkins has only one line/word of dialogue in The Dæmons episode five — namely "Sir?"
- In Barry Letts's novelisation, the character of Jenkins is replaced by Corporal Nevin.
- Although Sergeant Osgood asks Jenkins in The Dæmons episode four if the junction box is lined up, Jenkins himself is never seen on-screen.
- In the original script for episode five, the Brigadier's line was "Corporal! Chap with the wings there. Five rounds rapid!" The name Jenkins was an unscripted ad-lib by Nicholas Courtney.[1]
- Alan Barnes mentioned in Time and Space Visualiser: This month.. in 1971 – Thursday 29 April in DWM 590 that the actor who played Jenkins remains unidentified, and asked "If any reader should recognise their uncle Andrew, or grandad Jim, please write in." (original published text)
