A businessman called John was one of the men Luther Kane tricked out of their money on his ascension towards the status of richest man in Europe. When John confronted Kane, accusing him of having cheated him and ruined him, Kane, who was confident that nothing could be proven, readily admitted it to John, cheerfully retorting that "all [was] fair in love and industry".
