US Army general Ulysses S. Grant had a wife.
Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]
On 14 April 1865, Mrs Grant and her husband had originally planned to attend Ford's Theatre alongside President Abraham Lincoln and the First Lady, however, they would cancel and instead take the night train to Burlington. In their stead, Major Rathbone and his fiancée Clara Harris attended. That night, Lincoln would be assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]
Julia Grant would later become First Lady of the United States upon her husband's inauguration as President in 1869, and would serve in the role until 1877. This is unstated in Assassin in the Limelight as it takes place prior to her husband's presidency.
