• Livia’s role as head of the decimators is to ensure the collection of tithe — a tribute payment of one tenth.^[1] In this context, the titles "decima" and "decimator" do not refer to figurative decimation (i.e., destruction) but literal decimation (i.e., the removal of one tenth of something).^[2]
