Marina (Pericles)

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Marina was a character in William Shakespeare's play Pericles.

She was a princess. In an alternative version of the play, Romana informed Lord Lysimachus of her existence in Scene VI after rejecting his advances towards herself. She said that Marina could be found in the market, having arrived in Mytilene the "same [way] as everyone else" through bad luck, and that though she led a simple life her head was screwed on. Romana also said she had "style" and that he would "be lucky to have her". She then directly told Lysimachus to "woo the girl", opining that his state was "in a state" and that "Mytilene needs Marina, as do you". Lysimachus left the house of ill-repute in which they were talking soon afterwards in order to carry out Romana's instructions to "fetch her forth, get the Doctor then come back here".
