Papen was the Chancellor of Germany during 1932.

Biography[[edit]]

In 1932, Papen was appointed Chancellor. In that year, there were two elections, in July and November, as Germany continued to struggled to recover after World War I. All parties contesting the elections attacked Papen in their campaigns for his failure to fix the economy. The NSDAP eventually emerged victorious from the elections and Adolf Hitler succeeded Papen as Chancellor on 30 January 1933. (AUDIO: The Alchemists [+]Loading...["The Alchemists (audio story)"])

Behind the scenes[[edit]]

  • Although the character's full name is not stated, he is intended to be the real world German chancellor of this name, Franz von Papen.
  • Franz von Papen was among the senior Nazis tried at the Nuremberg trials. He was acquitted of the two charges against him. While the Nuremberg trials have been mentioned in the DWU, Papen has not been mentioned to have been a defendant.
